I was excited to work with the Sims family again this year. Two years ago, I photographed a Bar Mitzvah for their son Ben. He is really into botany, so they held the mitzvah at the conservatory in Druid Hill Park. This year, their daughter Madeline was the guest of honor. She is an artist, and so the event featured her art work and also gave guests the opportunity to work together on a painting right there.
My day with the family started with some portraits at their lovely home followed by a few more shots at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation before the religious ceremony. Later I went back to the house to photograph the party.
In addition to Madeline's art, some of the best vendors in Baltimore were exercising their creative muscles and talents for the party. Kate Taylor Events worked magic with the decorations (and made everything run smoothly), while DJ Carl, Jr. painted the soundscape, Linwoods made art in the kitchen and Simply Beautiful flowers crafted floral Picassos.
Also on hand was Art with a Heart, a organization that both Madeline and and her dad are involved with and which was facilitating the painting project at the party. The finished work (you can see photos of it in progress below) will be displayed at Hazelwood Elementary/Middle School which is a Baltimore City school where Art With a Heart acts as the art teacher (since the school doesn’t have one).
And now, below, some of my own art from a fantastic day.
