At this point in my career, I've photographed north of 350 weddings, countless engagement sessions, and hundreds of family portraits with my former wedding clients and their children. However, I had never photographed a wedding proposal until just a few months ago, when Jeffrey got in touch with me from Ohio.
Neither he nor Iti live in Baltimore at the moment, and so the plans for this surprise proposal were complex. Jeffrey and I shot emails back and forth for weeks. It was going to rain. It wasn't going to rain. Back up plans were made and changed. Iti's friends were involved in luring her to town for a girl's weekend...
And in the end, we had a perfect weekend day on which Iti's girlfriends took her to Federal Hill and then, suddenly, put a blindfold on her. She was led up the stairs to the top of the hill and heard a camera clicking, violin music in the distance, excited murmurs from passersby. Then she opened her eyes to see Jeffrey there with a ring in his hand and a question in his eye.
The answer was yes of course, and there was laughter and hugs, and a little picnic under a shady tree. Before I left, Jeffrey and Iti and I had a quick portrait sessions. (Check out that photo at the end -- would you believe that was taken on a median strip in the middle of Key Highway?)
Congratulations to Jeffrey and Iti and thank you for the opportunity to knock proposal shoot off of my bucket list!
